ERIC BOYER
Boyer Mesh is born of an intimate, experimental relationship forged between artist and subject and further exploration of the capabilities of his material. The unconventionality of wire mesh was the original impetus for Boyer to dedicate his practice to discovering its peculiarities; how it can conform and weld to his inventiveness. In part to this resourcefulness, Boyer’s metal sculptures are erected with a duality of figuration and liberty in mind.
Eric’s convex and grand forms seem to undulate when approached from any direction, Boyer’s pieces becoming pliable in the eyes of the viewer. They become reconceptualized from various vantage points, yet they remain sturdy in their overt perceived form peculiarly, certainly intentionally.
BIOGRAPHY
Born in New York, Eric Boyer’s early experimental work was heavily influenced by the spirit of play fostered by an art teacher father. In 1989, an invitation to a local arts festival provided an incentive to produce mesh figures, which were well-received. Full-time pursuit of sculpture soon followed. Having shown extensively on the East Coast, Boyer’s move to the West Coast demonstrates the overt manner in which his practice is leading him into new territory. Eric’s pieces can be seen in galleries worldwide and lovely interiors created by bespoke designers and architects in the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
